A high-level delegation from the Bangladesh Army visited Pakistan. On Tuesday (January 14), a delegation from the Bangladesh Army visited the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to meet with the country’s military authorities. The Express Tribune called the Bangladesh Army delegation’s visit as “rare.”
A high-level delegation from: According to the media site, Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan, Chief of Staff Officer (PSO) of the Bangladesh Armed Forces Division, is leading the first Bangladeshi military delegation to Islamabad in many years. General SM Kamrul Hasan is the second-highest-ranking officer in the military.
During the meeting, General SM Kamrul Hasan underlined the changes in bilateral relations between the two countries since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August last year.
According to the Express Tribune, relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh remained stagnant during Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year administration, as Hasina consistently rebuffed Pakistan’s peace initiatives. However, since her ouster, bilateral relations between the two countries have improved noticeably.
According to the report, both parties have recently expanded their communication, and multiple high-level talks have been held in recent months to reestablish relations. The arrival of a Bangladesh Army mission led by a senior general is viewed as another evidence of the two countries’ warming friendship.
Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi general met separately with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, according to the Pakistan Armed Forces’ media wing.
During the meeting between the Pakistani Army Chief and Lieutenant General Kamrul Hasan, there was a thorough discussion of regional security challenges, and several paths were examined to improve bilateral military cooperation.
According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both generals stressed the need of a robust defense relationship centered on opposing external influences.
The Pakistani Army Chief emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to achieve peace and stability in South Asia and the wider region. During this time, both countries agreed to contribute to regional security through joint defense projects.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Kamrul Hasan and his delegation met with General Mirza at the Joint Staff Headquarters (JSHQ). Their conversations centered on common strategic objectives and measures to improve bilateral defense cooperation.
Both sides stressed the importance of improving military relations and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the partnership from external threats.
General Mirza and Lieutenant General Hasan acknowledged the critical need for continued cooperation in promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
Lieutenant General Hasan praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed deep respect for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, recognizing the strength and commitment of the forces.
