During the altercation, a local Jubo Dal activist named Russell Ahmed (33) was shot. The incident took place on Wednesday (February 19) in the Teknowadda area of the upazila.
A Jubo Dal activist has been shot: According to police and local sources, Harun-ur-Rashid, a resident of Comilla, had been living with his family in Bageraga village of Rupganj Union for some time after constructing a house. He had also purchased additional land from a local resident named Akkas Ali. However, the same piece of land was also purchased by Jubo Dal leader Shamim Ahmed, son of Siraj Ahmed from Bariyachani village.
On Wednesday, during a land survey, both parties got into a heated argument, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. At one point, Harun-ur-Rashid reportedly pulled out a pistol and started firing openly.
During the shooting, Russell Ahmed, who was present at the scene in support of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Ahmed, was shot in the right leg. The sound of gunfire caused panic in the surrounding area. Eventually, a joint security force arrived and brought the situation under control.
Attempts to contact Harun-ur-Rashid for his response were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Jubo Dal leader Shamim Ahmed has filed a complaint with Rupganj Police Station, accusing Harun-ur-Rashid and 7-8 unidentified individuals.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaquat Ali said, “We have received a written complaint regarding the incident. A police force has been sent to the scene, and a proper investigation will be conducted before taking necessary action.”
