An Israeli airstrike killed a Bangladeshi. An expatriate Bangladeshi was killed in an airstrike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The Bangladeshi Embassy in Beirut confirmed the information.
Mohammad Nizam, a Bangladeshi, has died. According to his passport, he was 31 years and 11 months old. His father is Mohammad Abdul Kuddus, and his mother is Mosammat Anwara Begum. He lives in the Kharera region of Kasba Upazila, Brahmanbaria district.
According to the Bangladeshi Embassy in Beirut, Nizam was hit by an airstrike on his way to work in the Hazmieh neighborhood of Beirut at 3:23 PM local time yesterday (Saturday) while at a coffee shop. He died on the spot.
According to diplomatic sources, Nizam’s wife is also in Lebanon. The embassy maintains communication with her. She was advised that due to the conflict situation and the absence of flights, it will not be feasible to send Nizam’s body to Bangladesh.
The conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s political and armed militia Hezbollah is ongoing. Israel has conducted sporadic attacks in Lebanon since the Gaza war began on October 7, last year. However, for approximately a month, they have been conducting persistent and escalating attacks on Hezbollah, including ground operations. According to estimates from Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, cited by Al Jazeera, at least 2,867 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon since October 7, 2018, with 13,047 injured.
The Bangladeshi Ambassador to Lebanon, Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanvir Khan, has expressed heartfelt sadness over Nizam’s death. He has prayed for the forgiveness of his departed soul and sent his profound sympathies to the bereaved family members.
