The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has reached a definitive decision on Javier Cabrera, the head coach of the Bangladesh men’s national football team, and Peter Butler, the coach of the women’s squad. At an online meeting on Wednesday (January 15), it was decided to keep both coaches.
Butler will be the football coach :Â The decision was reached by the BFF emergency committee, which included the president, senior vice president, and four vice presidents. Several authorities present at the meeting informed the media that “Peter Butler and Javier Cabrera will coach the women’s and men’s football teams, respectively.” Butler will serve for a year, while Javier will remain till the Asian Cup qualifiers.
Bangladesh’s final Asian Cup qualifying match will be against Singapore in March 2026. Cabrera will be in command of the men’s football squad till then. Meanwhile, Peter Butler’s contract will be active until the middle of January next year.
The formalities of their contracts are likely to be completed in the coming days. Following that, an official announcement may be made with the permission of the executive committee.
Meanwhile, Tabith Awal leads the new BFF committee, which has yet to declare the National Team Committee. As a result, the decision on coaches was taken at an emergency committee meeting rather than a National Team Committee meeting. BFF President Tabith Awal is now in England.
Some executive members were taken aback by the unexpected emergency meeting of the committee. The federation’s executive committee has 21 members, 15 of whom are executives. Many executive committee members have expressed discontent with the decision to hire men’s and women’s football coaches, which was decided without the involvement of a substantial percentage of the committee.
