Increased VAT causes another

Increased VAT causes another increase in LPG prices. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) had held the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) steady for two months in a row. In January, a 12-kilogram cylinder was priced at 1,455 BDT. However, due to an increase in value-added tax (VAT), the organization increased the price of the 12 kg cylinder by 4 BDT.

Increased VAT causes another:  In reaction to the change in VAT rates, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) issued a notification on Tuesday evening that adjusted the prices of both government and private LPG. The announcement to the media indicated that the price of private LPG, including VAT, had been established at 121.56 BDT per kilogram. Based on this, costs for various sizes of LPG cylinders are calculated. Prior to the VAT adjustment, the price per kilogram was 121.19 BDT.

The current price for LPG used in automobiles (auto gas) is 67.27 BDT per liter, up from 66.78 BDT. Meanwhile, the price of a 12.5-kilogram LPG cylinder supplied by government companies remains at 690 BDT.

Since April 2021, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has controlled the price of LPG. The primary components required to create LPG, propane and butane, are imported from a variety of countries.

Every month, Saudi Aramco announces the prices for these two LPG components. This is referred to as the Saudi Cargo Price (CP). The BERC modifies the price of LPG in the country according on the Saudi CP. The BERC calculates the average price for the month by taking into account the importing companies’ invoice prices and the US dollar exchange rate.
