Students and police clashed, chased and counter-chased, and blank rounds were fired. A pursuit and counter-chase ensued between police and about a hundred Prime Asia University students in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat’s Gate No. 1. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 7, in front of the Secretariat.
Students and police clashed: Prime Asia University students conducted a protest on the road in front of the National Press Club beginning approximately 2:30 PM, demanding a permanent campus and the resignation of the trustee board chairman. They remained there for around 30 minutes before heading to the Education Building.
According to sources on the scene, a four-person delegation representing Prime Asia University students entered to meet with the Education Advisor. The appointment with the Education Advisor was planned for 4:30 PM. Meanwhile, more than a hundred students waited outside.
The waiting students got into a confrontation with the cops, which escalated. The police then used baton charges. To quell the incident, the cops fired two rounds of blank shots.
