Terrorists openly attacked

Terrorists openly attacked and injured two businessmen on Elephant Road in the capital. Among them, Ehtesamul Haque (42)’s health is critical. He is being treated at a private hospital in Dhanmondi. The other injured person, Wahidul Hasan Dipu, has received primary care.

Terrorists openly attacked: The attack occurred on Friday night. A video of Ehtesamul being hacked with a machete went viral on social media on Saturday. Wahidul, who was injured, is the president of the Elephant Road Computer Business Association and the Senior Joint Convener of the Multiplan Center Business Owners Association. Ehtesamul Haque is the Joint Convener of the Multiplan Center Business Owners.

According to the business owners, the attack on these two leaders could be the result of disagreements over the committee, water and internet access, attempts to occupy parking spaces and pathways, and resistance to extortion. At midday today, business owners held a demonstration on Elephant Road to protest the attack and demand punishment for the culprits. The company owners are urging that the perpetrators be apprehended immediately and punished severely.

The viral video shows 4-5 persons attacking Ehtesamul with a machete in front of the Multiplan Market. Another 6-7 persons are standing close, each wearing a mask. Ehtesamul collapses on the ground after being attacked with the machete. Even after that, the attackers continue to target him. He tries to rise up but is unable to due to the attackers’ blows, and he eventually falls down on the road. The assailants continue to attack him. He attempts to climb again, but fails. During the attack, pedestrians and automobiles can be seen on the road, but no one comes forward to stop the assailants. After a minute and a half to two minutes, the assailants flee.

Tariq Latif, Assistant Commissioner of Police for the New Market Zone, stated, “We have acquired CCTV evidence indicating that 10-12 people were involved in the incident. One or more of them have been recognized. Their names cannot be released at this time owing to an ongoing investigation. Efforts are ongoing to identify the others involved.”

He went on to say, “Three key aspects are being investigated.” It is being investigated whether the attack was motivated by corporate competition, market association issues, or extortion.”
