Trump-Modi meeting is likely to be held off in February. US President Donald Trump is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to France in mid-February. If not, Modi can go to Washington DC to meet him. The Economic Times quoted multiple sources familiar with the preparations for the meeting of the two leaders.
Trump-Modi meeting is likely:Â French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a conference on artificial intelligence (AI) in France in February. Modi will attend the summit. Trump is also on the guest list. According to multiple Indian media reports, the date for the first meeting between the two leaders after Trump’s return to the White House is yet to be finalised.
There are talks of holding the meeting on the sidelines of the AI conference or in the US. The decision will be made after several meetings with the Trump administration.
The two countries are urgently considering the meeting, fearing possible tensions between the two countries over illegal immigrants and tariffs, they said. India is the host of this year’s Quad summit and Trump is scheduled to visit India later this year.
Earlier in 2019, Trump had participated in the ‘Howdy Modi’ rally with Modi in Houston. The conference was attended by 50,000 people, most of whom were Indian-Americans.
