In the BPL, Mahidul holds the record for the fastest fifty among Bangladeshi batsmen, reaching the milestone in just 18 balls. Mahidul Islam set a new BPL record for the fastest fifty by a Bangladeshi batsman. In today’s opening match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, the Khulna Tigers’ wicketkeeper-batsman set the record by reaching the milestone in just 18 balls against the Chattogram Kings.
In the BPL, Mahidul holds the record: Mahidul smashed the previous mark set by Rony Talukdar. Rony hit 50 runs in 19 balls for the Rangpur Riders against the Comilla Victorians in Mirpur in January 2023.
Not only has Mahidul made history in the BPL, but he also holds the record for the fastest fifty by a Bangladeshi batsman in recognized T20 cricket. Liton Das also struck 50 runs in 18 balls against Ireland in Chattogram in 2023.
Overall, Mahidul’s fifty is the third-quickest in BPL history. He finished unbeaten on 59 runs from 22 balls, including six sixes. on the BPL, only two players have scored 50 runs on less balls than Mahidul.
Ahmed Shehzad, a Pakistani cricketer, scored 50 runs off 16 balls against Duronto Rajshahi in Mirpur in 2012. Sunil Narine broke the record in 2022. The West Indies all-rounder hit fifty in 13 balls for Comilla Victorians against Chattogram Challengers.
Aside from Mahidul, two other BPL players have hit 50 runs in 18 balls. In 2023, Khushdil Shah of Comilla Victorians accomplished the feat against Dhaka Dominators, while in 2022, Will Jacks of Chattogram Challengers did the same against Sylhet Sunrisers.
Khulna scored 203 runs for four wickets, largely thanks to Mahidul’s powerful effort.
