Even on parole, the Awami League activist wasn’t granted release, so the father’s body was brought to the prison! Following his father’s death, Mohammad Nazmul Huda Rubel, the imprisoned chairman of the Burudia Union Parishad (UP) in Pakundia Upazila, Kishoreganj, petitioned for parole to see him one final time and attend his funeral prayers. However, he was not released on parole. Instead, the jail authorities arranged for his father’s body to be carried inside the prison so he could say his final goodbye.
Even on parole, the Awami League activist:Â The ambulance transporting the deceased entered the jail grounds at 12:30 p.m. today, Monday. Nazmul Huda, UP Chairman, then saw his father for the last time there. The Kishoreganj District Jail authorities verified the occurrence.
Earlier, on Sunday night, UP Chairman Nazmul Huda’s father, Zia Uddin, died at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital.
According to family sources, Nazmul Huda’s lawyer, Sujit Kumar De, made a request to the Deputy Commissioner this morning for his release on parole to attend his father’s funeral rites. Shakhawat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station, indicated that the application was declined due to the opinion of law enforcement authorities as well as security concerns. At the same time, the jail authorities were told to make arrangements for the arrested guy to see his deceased father at the prison gate.
Rubel’s mother, Noor Jahan Begum, stated that despite several efforts, arrangements could not be made for her son’s release, even for a little period. As a result, her husband’s body was transferred to the prison so that her kid might see him one final time. Later, they said funeral prayers for his father at their home. She further stated that, while her son supports the Awami League, he does not hold any positions inside the party. However, three lawsuits have been launched against him.
According to relatives, about 12 p.m., the ambulance carrying the body was driven to the prison. Along with the body, the UP-Chairman’s mother, Noor Jahan Begum, and other relatives went there. However, the UP Chairman’s other relatives were not permitted to meet with him; only his mother was allowed to do so.
Kishoreganj Jail Superintendent Ritesh Chakma verified the incident, claiming that the ambulance carrying the UP-Chairman’s father’s body was taken into the prison by authorities at 12:30 PM. There, the UP Chairman saw his father’s body for the final time. His mother, Noor Jahan Begum, was also allowed a few minutes to talk with her son.
