Five out of the top 10 cities are in China, with four in the United States. Shanghai is ranked second, with New York and Boston in the United States coming in third and fourth, respectively. Tokyo, Japan, is also among the top ten cities.

Nature reported in an article that research outcomes in China are progressively improving, according to this list. The list includes cities spanning from Chengdu in the west to Hefei in eastern China. The majority of these cities are unfamiliar to many people.
The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University are two of Beijing’s top research institutes. Kolkata, India, is ranked 84th, followed by Bangalore. Mumbai and Delhi are ranked at 98th and 124th, respectively. Although no cities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, or Afghanistan are included, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is rated 134th.
