British author Samantha Harvey has won the 2024 Booker Prize. The 2024 Booker Prize has gone to Samantha Harvey, a British author. Last Tuesday, November 12, was the announcement day for the award. Harvey’s book Orbital, which follows the daily lives of six astronauts on the International Space Station, earned the prize. Two of the six astronauts in the book are men, and the other four are women.

On Tuesday, Edmund de Waal, the panel’s chairperson, announced that British author Harvey had been unanimously chosen by the judges to receive the Booker Prize.

 

According to Harvey, she is donating the £50,000 prize money to people who fight for peace, protect the dignity of others, speak for other living things, and defend the environment.

 

After receiving the award, Harvey revealed in an interview with BBC News that she was utterly shocked and overwhelmed.

She added that this honor will transform her life.

 

In response to a question about her plans for the £50,000 prize money, she said, “I need to buy myself a new bike, and it will be a good one.”

 

Orbital is the second-shortest book to receive the Booker Prize, at 136 pages. Additionally, it is the first space-related novel to get the esteemed honor. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, Harvey authored Orbital.

 

This year’s Booker Prize shortlist also includes Canadian novelist Anne Michaels and American author Rachel Kushner.
