Results of 193 candidates selected in the medical admission test under the quota have been postponed. The Directorate of Health Education has suspended the medical entrance test results for 193 Freedom Fighters’ Quota candidates. Professor Rubina Yasmin, the organization’s Additional Director General (Medical Education), noted that a decision will be taken following proper verification and inspection.
Results of 193 candidates selected: On Sunday, the Directorate of Health Education released the results of the medical admission test for the 2024-2025 academic year. A total of 5,372 individuals were initially selected for admission to 37 government medical colleges across the country, with 193 falling under the Freedom Fighters Quota.
Some critics say that candidates with lower grades were chosen for admittance, causing controversy. On Sunday night, students from Dhaka University and Dhaka Medical College protested near the Central Shaheed Minar, claiming that the published results were “discriminatory.” They also urged that the results be cancelled.
Professor Rubina Yasmin said on Monday afternoon that the results for these candidates will be temporarily postponed.
“We will verify their documents. Three committees have been constituted specifically for this purpose. On January 27, 28, and 29, they will deliver all of their documents to the ministry. We shall investigate whether anyone other than the eligible children of freedom fighters has been included on this list. If anyone other than the eligible children is on the list, they will have no chance of retaining their position.
Professor Rubina added, “This is a preliminary outcome. Everything will be finished once the documents have been reviewed. Typically, documents under the freedom fighters’ quota are verified at their respective colleges. However, there is currently no opportunity to undertake verification at the collegiate level.”
“Come to the Directorate of Health Education; we have set up a committee there. “They will sit for three days and verify everything,” explained Professor Rubina Yasmin.
Earlier in the afternoon, Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, discussed the topic at a Dhaka hotel.
He remarked, “In light of the effort to remove quotas, the court order made a crucial adjustment by replacing grandkids with children in the quota policy. As a result, admissions under the quota system are governed by policy decisions. The MBBS admission test was administered in conformity with current rules and regulations. Nonetheless, a screening process will be carried out.
According to Special Assistant Sayedur, “Among the 193 selected for admittance, it would be extremely unusual to have individuals aged 67-68 who had minimal chance of having children. If any disparities are discovered in such circumstances, they will be resolved.
“Whether or not the primary quota remains in the MBBS exam is a matter for the state, not the Ministry of Health’s policy.” “This issue will be reviewed on January 27, 28, and 29.”
