Students locked the UGC

Students locked the UGC gate with a padlock. In a bid to uphold the cluster-based admission test system for 24 universities, protesting university admission seekers have locked the gates of the University Grants Commission (UGC) building. Frustrated by the lack of a decision from the Ministry of Education, they staged a demonstration and locked the UGC gates.

Students locked the UGC: On Monday (January 26) afternoon, the students locked the gates of the UGC building and took positions in front of it. Previously, they had announced a blockade and sit-in program at the UGC.

The protesting students said that although the UGC held discussions with them yesterday, no concrete outcome was presented. As a result, they returned today, staged a sit-in, and locked the gates. They vowed to continue their protest until a decision is made.

Siam Hasan, the coordinator of the protest, told The Daily Campus, “Yesterday, we were assured by the UGC and the Ministry of Education that a decision would be communicated today. They said they would enforce strict directives to ensure universities remain in the cluster system. However, even as the afternoon passes, we have not received any such directives. If more time elapses, the UGC will claim the office hours are over. Therefore, we demand that the decision be announced today. Until our demands are met, we will not unlock the UGC gates.”
