Asma al-Assad filed for divorce from Bashar al-Assad. Asma al-Assad, wife of Syria’s former president Bashar al-Assad, has filed for divorce, citing displeasure with her life in Moscow. She has reportedly voiced a wish to go to London, according to Turkish and Arab media reports published by The Jerusalem Post.
Asma al-Assad filed for divorce: According to the source, Asma recently filed a petition with a Russian court requesting special authorization to leave Moscow. Her request is presently being reviewed by Russian officials.
Asma was born in 1975 in London to Syrian parents and raised there. However, in 2000, she relocated to Syria and married Bashar al-Assad the same year. Bashar took control in Syria in 2000, following the death of his father, Hafez al-Assad, and ruled the country for 24 years.
However, on December 8, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and several other rebel organizations seized control of Syria’s capital, Damascus. In light of this situation, Assad departed the nation and sought asylum in Russia.
