Do not sacrifice yourself for an incompetent leader, surrender to the Arakan Army. The Arakan Army (AA) has stated that its fighters have detained Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, Ann Township’s Chief of Staff in Rakhine State. In a video released by the Arakan Army on Thursday (December 26), the jailed general is seen advising soldiers stationed in Rakhine State to surrender to the Arakan Army in order to avoid future casualties due to incompetent leadership.
Do not sacrifice yourself: Earlier last month, the Arakan Army (AA) seized three townships in Rakhine State—Maungdaw, Taungup, and Ann—that had formerly held the junta’s Western Command post. Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than reported that during the final assault, his forces ran out of food, ammunition, medical supplies, and drinking water.
He remarked, “Considering the geographical limitations of Rakhine and the truths shown in the struggle, I urge my fellow fighters and soldiers not to sacrifice themselves for ineffective leadership. Contact the Arakan Army and surrender promptly. Raise the white flag and lower your weapons.”
He vowed that the Arakan Army will protect all of them. He was assigned to this region in 2020 and was just apprehended after the Western Command headquarters was taken over. He informed his family that he is in good health and that there is no reason for alarm.
The Arakan Army has already taken 14 of Rakhine’s 17 towns. Sitte, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung remain under government control. The junta is on the verge of losing control of the state’s southern region, as the Arakan Army now controls rural areas.
Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, conceding the difficulty of fighting in Rakhine, has urged junta leader Min Aung Hlaing to accept defeat in Rakhine and has recognized the Arakan Army’s combat capability.
He stated, “Considering the lives and well-being of the soldiers, I urge you to accept the losses in Rakhine.” Please end the airstrikes and cruelty against civilians. Continued measures will only exacerbate the misery of military families and the public. The sooner you raise the white flag, the sooner you will be secure, able to visit your family, and enjoy the New Year.
Last week, many government soldiers and their families surrendered to the Arakan Army. The Arakan Army has declared that the detainees are being treated in accordance with the law, including food, housing, and medical supplies. A video published on Thursday shows an Arakan Army medical staff treating soldiers of the junta forces.
