Recent polls revealed a drop in Trudeau’s popularity, putting tremendous pressure on party members. Furthermore, the opposing Conservative Party was ahead in these polls. A general election is slated for later this year, and a new government must be formed by October 20th.
It should be noted that Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada for the first time after winning the 2015 election. He has been in power for nearly ten years, having won two additional elections. At the age of 53, he has announced his resignation.
