Formation of a new Election Commission

Formation of a new Election Commission. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the newly established Election Commission is retired Secretary A.M.M. Nasir Uddin. The Cabinet Division revealed this information in two different announcements. The Cabinet Division made the announcements public on Thursday, November 21.

 

Formation of a new Election Commission. The following individuals have been appointed as Election Commissioners: retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah, retired Joint Secretary Begum Tahmida Ahmed, retired District and Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman Masud, and retired Additional Secretary Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar.

A six-member search group headed by Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury of the Appellate Division was established on October 29 in order to restructure the Election Commission. Following review, the committee on Wednesday, November 20, sent a list of ten nominees to the President’s Office. The President selected one Chief Election Commissioner and four Election Commissioners from this list.
