Shibir offered a 41-point proposal at Jahangirnagar University. Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Shibir has put forward 41 proposals, including ensuring the trial of attackers in anti-discrimination movements, publishing a white paper on corruption by all vice-chancellors during the Awami League era, creating a drug-free and safe campus for female students, and reforming the admission test system.

Three organization leaders presented these recommendations during a news conference today, Sunday, at 12 p.m., in the university’s Student-Teacher Center (TSC) conference room.

Shibir’s leaders include President Harunur Rashid, General Secretary Mohibur Rahman, and Publicity Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun. Earlier, on the night of October 29, three leaders of the university’s Chhatra Shibir made their first public appearance in 35 years. In response, a group of progressive students organized a protest that same night.

Mohibur Rahman, the organization’s general secretary, made the proposals during the news conference. Notable proposals include: establishing July 16 as Anti-Terrorism Day; renaming all facilities currently named after irrelevant members of Sheikh Hasina’s family, the main architects of the fascist regime, after the martyrs of the anti-autocracy movement; providing healthcare and rehabilitation for those injured in mass uprisings; and expelling, revoking certificates, canceling admissions, positions, or appointments, or imposing relevant punishments under university regulations for individuals involved in attacks on student-popular movements, depending on the seriousness of their crimes, as well as prosecuting them under state law.

The proposals include holding elections for departmental student councils, hall councils, and JAKSU (Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union); publishing a white paper on corruption associated with development projects during the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam and all vice-chancellors of the autocratic era; conducting thorough investigations into all incidents of student abuse, ragging, and harassment that took place during the fascist era and guaranteeing proper justice under state and university laws; guaranteeing full justice for all student killings and murders that have occurred since the university’s founding; ensuring a drug-free campus; and formally bringing incidents of illegal hall occupation by Chhatra League leaders and activists over the past 16 years under the purview of justice.

Additionally, the proposals call for the immediate elimination of the practice of hiring teachers and staff only through oral interviews, the creation of a higher investigation committee to cancel all illegal appointments made during the previous 15 years of the fascist government, the creation of the safest possible campus for female students, the establishment of a

student-friendly environment in female dormitories, including among responsible teachers and other officials, the establishment of a clear policy to ensure that no student is harassed by peers, teachers, or other individuals in the classroom or on campus because of their attire, and the replacement of corrupt officials in the anti-sexual harassment cell with a new committee to prevent violence against women and protect them from abuse.
