Students hoisted a banner

Students hoisted a banner stating “Titumir University” at the front gate of the campus. The students of Dhaka’s Government Titumir College have placed a banner stating “Titumir University” at the college’s front gate. They did this on Tuesday morning as part of their demand that the college be transformed into a full-fledged university.

Students hoisted a banner: Titumir College students have been protesting for a long time, demanding that the college be transformed into a university. This time, they erected a banner at the front entrance saying “Titumir University” and restated their demand that the college be converted into a university as soon as feasible.

At the time, the students accused the Ministry of Education of double standards, claiming that a proposal was made to form university equivalents with seven colleges, which they believe do not meet the demands of Titumir College. They warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, the next steps will be outlined on Thursday.

For a long time, students have demanded that Titumir College become a university. Most recently, last Saturday, they announced a protest plan for the day. It was announced that a demonstration program will be conducted in front of Titumir College’s main gate on Tuesday (January 7) at 11:00 a.m. to oppose the Ministry of Education’s double standards and to demand the rapid transformation of Titumir College into a university.

On December 3, the Ministry of Education established a five-member committee to determine the viability of converting Titumir College into a university.

Aminul Islam, a third-year mathematics student, criticized the committee’s operations, stating, “No concrete information has been released yet. Meanwhile, while one committee’s work continues, the Ministry of Education has organized another to transform the seven institutions into universities. “We strongly protest this.”

Earlier, on November 19, hundreds of students gathered at Amtoli, Kachabazar, and Mohakhali’s railway crossing from the morning until 11:00 a.m. They called for the formation of a commission to convert Titumir College into a university.

On the previous day, November 18, protesting students boycotted classes and exams as part of the “Closedown Titumir” campaign to press their demand for the conversion of Government Titumir College into a university.

On the afternoon of November 19, after negotiations with a delegation of protesting students, the Ministry of Education informed them that a committee would be formed the following week to study the possibility of converting Titumir College into a university. Fourteen days later, the committee was formed.
