The robot’s artwork was sold for $1.32 million USD. A robot is not human; thus, all of its reasoning is governed by computations. However, behind the art created on canvas with colors and brushes are the artist’s emotions, thoughts, experiences, and creativity. Only then do colors and brushes blend together, allowing the painting to communicate in a variety of ways.
The robot’s artwork. Emotions and thoughts in painting were traditionally reserved for humans. However, this assumption was recently challenged by a robot artist known as “Ai-Da.” It painted an entire painting on canvas with a single brush stroke.
The picture was sold for 1.32 million USD, which is almost 150 million BDT.
This marks the first time a humanoid robot has painted a painting. However, Sotheby’s auction house in London could not have predicted that it would sell for such a high sum. The 7.5-foot-tall artwork on a big canvas was included in Sotheby’s digital art auction.
The officials expected the picture to sell no more than 180,000 USD, or about 15 million INR.
However, as the auction began, the robot artist’s artwork broke records, fetching almost 1.1 million USD. The Sotheby’s authorities were astounded. But what exactly was in the painting? What did the robotic artist paint on the canvas?
Sotheby’s has presented the painting, which depicts a face emerging from a deep brown canvas. However, the face is incomplete. The picture, titled “AI God,” represents the “God of Artificial Intelligence.” The robot’s artwork.
The face depicted is that of a real person—a prominent mathematician named Alan Turing. During World War II in 1950, this mathematician made waves by deciphering the Nazis’ coded messages.
Turing’s method is thought to have helped the Allies beat the Nazis and their allies.
Turing went on to play an important role in the development of artificial intelligence, earning him the title of “Father of Artificial Intelligence.” Turing also expressed concern about the misuse of artificial intelligence. The humanoid robot “Ai-Da” has dedicated its first artwork to Turing himself. The robot’s artwork.
The painting depicts various sections of Turing’s face shattered and splintered, resulting in an abstract work of art by the robot artist. When specialists sought to understand the picture, they stated, “The image reflects the very problem that Turing had mentioned regarding handling artificial intelligence.”
However, Sotheby’s claims that “Ai-Da” developed the artwork following conversations with her “team.” They stated that before painting, Ai-Da spoke with her team on the right use of artificial intelligence. She only painted after that. Ai-Da is recognized as the world’s most advanced and realistic humanoid robot.
