The Chief Advisor has requested Singapore’s assistance in recovering the smuggled money. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor, has urged Singapore to help recover money smuggled out of Bangladesh and reduce the costs of migration from the country.

The Chief Advisor has requested. Derek Loh, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met with the Chief Advisor on Sunday, November 10. During a nearly hour-long debate, Professor Yunus informed High Commissioner Loh that “a large amount of money has been smuggled out of Bangladesh to many countries, including Singapore.” “We need full cooperation from Singapore,” he stated.

 

High Commissioner Loh committed to assist the interim administration with this situation. Professor Yunus also urged Singapore to collaborate with Dhaka to lower the costs associated with recruiting Bangladeshi workers.

He stated that the interim government intends to minimize the cost of migration in order for expatriates to send more money home. “We can create a model framework with Singapore to reduce recruitment costs,” stated the Chief Advisor.

 

The High Commissioner assured Bangladesh of help and recommended it to modernize its overseas recruitment system in order to eliminate the risk of human trafficking and labor exploitation. The Chief Advisor has requested.

 

The bilateral discussion also focused on commerce and investment relations, the interim government’s foreign policy, shipping, education, and healthcare for their respective populations.

Dr. Yunus stated, “Just three months after the fall of the autocratic government, Bangladesh’s economy has successfully rebounded and is now ready for business. our is the ideal time to conduct business in our country.”

 

Francis Chong, Senior Director of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, stated that Bangladesh had proposed a free trade deal with Singapore in 2021. The feasibility analysis for the planned FTA has been completed, and both countries will now decide how to begin discussions for a free trade agreement.

Loh stated that Singapore would be delighted to offer its knowledge in water purification and waste-to-energy management. He also advocated collaboration between the food agencies of both countries.

 

Regarding the interim government’s foreign policy, Professor Yunus stated that his government maintains excellent relations with its neighbors and is striving to revitalize SAARC as a forum for further engagement with South Asian countries. The Chief Advisor has requested.

 

He asked Singapore to support Bangladesh’s participation as a sectoral dialogue partner in ASEAN. In response, Derek Loh indicated that his country is optimistic about this situation.

Professor Yunus stated that since the interim government assumed office, Dhaka has gotten widespread support from its supporters in both the western and eastern areas.

 

He stated, “We don’t distinguish between the East and the West. “We must build bridges everywhere.”

 

The meeting also included the Chief Advisor’s Special Envoy, Lutfe Siddique, Senior Secretary and Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed, and Singapore’s Charge d’Affaires in Dhaka, Michael Lee.
