The government is importing another 50,000 tons of rice from India. The government is set to import an additional 50,000 tons of non-Basmati parboiled rice from India. The proposal for this import was approved at a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Council held at the Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Economic Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed.
The government is importing: According to meeting sources, the decision to import rice aims to increase the country’s food reserves and ensure the smooth operation of the government’s distribution system. The Directorate General of Food will import the 50,000 tons of rice from M/S Bagadia Brothers in India at a rate of 53.02 BDT per kg, totaling 2.65 billion BDT. Previously, several proposals were approved for importing hundreds of thousands of tons of rice from India, Pakistan, and other countries.
During the meeting, a proposal to import 40,000 tons of DAP fertilizer from Saudi Arabia was also approved. Additionally, a decision was made to purchase 10,000 tons of phosphoric acid for fertilizer factories. The total cost of these two procurement proposals is estimated at 3.08 billion BDT.
Furthermore, the meeting approved the construction of four buffer warehouses in four districts for fertilizer storage, with a total estimated cost of 2.38 billion BDT.
