Vandalism occurred at the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala. The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission building in Kunjban, Agartala, India, was attacked and vandalized. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has apologized for the incident.

Vandalism occurred: A Hindu nationalist organization in Agartala staged a demonstration against Chinmoy Krishna Das’s detention and the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh on Monday, December 2. The Gandhi statue in the Agartala Circuit House was the site of the demonstration. A six-person protest delegation later presented a memorandum to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission.

At one occasion, angry group members stormed into the Assistant High Commission, took down and destroyed Bangladesh’s national flag. After that, they damaged and burned the signboard in front of the building.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has apologized for the incident in a statement. “The vandalism at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission premises in Agartala is extremely regrettable,” the statement said. Under no circumstances can diplomatic and consular properties be targeted.

The press release said, “In light of this, the government is taking steps to enhance security measures for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and other Deputy/Assistant High Commissions of Bangladesh in India.”
