220 Bangladeshis are stranded

220 Bangladeshis are stranded at Kolkata’s airport and have not been given water. Two hundred and twenty Bangladeshi passengers are stranded at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport. They had been in serious distress since late Sunday night (January 5). The passengers have complained that, despite the fact that it is already afternoon, they have yet to be provided water. Furthermore, they have not received a clear explanation as to when they will be flown back to Dhaka. Several media outlets across the country have covered this story.

220 Bangladeshis are stranded : On Sunday night (January 6), a Malindo Air flight (flight number OD-162) from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Dhaka made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport owing to thick fog.

However, even after nearly 15 hours, by Monday evening, the airline had made no arrangements to transport the trapped Bangladeshi passengers to Dhaka. As a result, around 220 passengers remain in distress, including women, children, and numerous severely ill patients.

When contacted, the Kolkata airport authorities acknowledged the validity of the occurrence but claimed that the airline is responsible for the situation. Attempts to reach Malindo Air’s residential offices in India and Kuala Lumpur failed.

Riyaz Fahadi, a Malindo Air passenger stranded in Kolkata, stated that the flight, which was scheduled to depart from Kuala Lumpur Airport at 10 p.m., was delayed by one hour. If everything went as planned, the airplane would have arrived in Dhaka at 3 a.m. However, due to strong fog, the plane, carrying 220 passengers, made an emergency landing in Kolkata. From 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., passengers had to wait aboard the plane. They were thereafter escorted to the Kolkata airport’s waiting room. No passengers were offered a bottle of water in the morning. Although meals was served at midday, no water was offered earlier.

No one from Malindo Air can guarantee when the passengers would be taken to Dhaka. There are approximately five critically ill individuals on the trip who require immediate hospitalization, but no plans have been made for them.

Another traveler stated that they were scheduled to travel abroad with their family tomorrow early, but they had not yet been moved from Kolkata. The Kolkata airport authorities have also not responded to the question of when the 220 Bangladeshi passengers will be free to return home.
