Permission granted to import 19 crore eggs to keep prices under control. The government has authorized the importation of an extra 19 crore eggs in order to keep prices under control. To boost market supply, 42 businesses have been given permission by the Ministry of Commerce to import 18.8 crore eggs. The ministry’s Internal Trade-1 branch released a notification on Tuesday with this information.

Permission granted to import… Permission to import 8.5 crore eggs was previously granted to 19 companies in two stages in October. This authorization will be in effect until this year’s December 31st. About 5 crore eggs are needed every day in the nation, according to estimates.

The import of eggs is subject to a number of restrictions set by the government. The first requirement is that eggs must be imported from nations that are free of bird flu or avian influenza. Second, a certificate from the government or other authorized authority of the exporting nation attesting to the eggs’ immunity to dangerous microorganisms and the avian flu virus must be sent with every shipment of eggs. Third, at least 15 days before to each shipment, importers are required to notify the appropriate quarantine authority. Finally, following approval, the Ministry of Commerce must receive status reports on the imports every seven days.

Due to a shortage of supply, eggs were in short supply and the price of a dozen eggs in the market had risen to about 200 BDT a few days ago, hitting as high as 190 BDT. Prices have decreased after imports were approved. The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) reports that the price of an egg in Dhaka marketplaces is currently between 144 and 150 BDT per dozen. Permission granted to import.

A “reasonable price” for eggs was recently established by the Department of Agricultural Marketing. The department claims that the price per egg is fixed at 10.58 BDT for manufacturing, 11.01 BDT for wholesale, and 11.87 BDT for retail, with a dozen costing 142.44 BDT.

The Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission suggested temporarily eliminating import taxes and levies on eggs in response to the unusual price increase. On October 17, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) subsequently declared that importation of eggs would not be subject to taxes. The 25% import duty was lowered to 5%, and the lower rate will last until December 15.
