Abdul Matin, popularly known as Mithu (65), a leader of the Awami League, passed away from a heart attack while incarcerated at the Bogura District Jail. While undergoing therapy, he passed away on Monday, December 9, at approximately 8:30 AM. The night before, he was admitted to the cardiology department of the Bogura Medical College Hospital’s coronary care unit (CCU).
The deaths of 4 Awami League: Previously, Shahadat Alam, commonly known as Jhunu (57), the organizational secretary of the Bogura district Awami League and former principal of Police Lines School and College, died of a heart attack while in detention on November 26. Abdul Latif (67), the treasurer of the Shibganj Upazila Awami League, died on November 25. In addition, Shahidul Islam, better known as Ratan (58), the general secretary of the 15th Ward Awami League in Bogura Municipality, died of a heart attack while in detention on November 11.
Abdul Matin lived in Gabtali Upazila, Bogura, in Baithabhangar South Para. He was the head of the Durga Hat Union Awami League’s sixth ward and a member of the Upazila Awami League. Additionally, he has been repeatedly chosen chairman of the Durga Hat Union Parishad. Faruk Ahmed, the jail supervisor of Bogura District Jail, stated that Abdul Matin had been detained since August 24 and that no significant health problems had been reported before then. He complained of a sore throat on Sunday morning. After this, he was taking medicine as prescribed by the jail physician. He experienced chest pain on Sunday about 2:45 AM. He was taken right away to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he passed away early on Monday morning from a heart attack while receiving treatment. Following an autopsy, the family will receive his body.
However, family members claim that the murder was planned by the unlawful government. They allege that Awami League leaders are being tortured in jail, which has resulted in their deaths. They ask, “Where will this torture end?”
