A Jubo Dal leader was killed in a conflict between two groups of the BNP. In Kurigram, a Youth Wing leader named Ashraful Islam (38) was killed in an attack by opponents in front of the police station. The incident happened on Friday evening (December 27) in front of the Ulipur Police Station. In addition, several more Youth Wing leaders and activists were hurt in the incident.
A Jubo Dal leader was killed :Â The deceased, Ashraful Islam, was the son of Aynal Hossain of Dayalpara village in Ulipur Municipality Ward No. 6 and the Municipal Youth BNP’s Joint Convener.
According to authorities and villagers, a young woman recently fled her house with her lover, prompting her family to file an abduction complaint with the police. On Thursday (December 26), authorities raided a residence in the Ulipur area after receiving information that the young couple was residing there. However, the pair escaped before the cops arrived. Later, this incident triggered a fight between two local BNP sections.
On Friday evening, the two factions were due to meet at the Ulipur Police Station’s Golghar. However, before that could happen, a physical brawl erupted between the two factions outside the station. During the scuffle, youth leader Ashraful Islam was severely injured by punches and kicks from the opposing party and was immediately sent to the Ulipur Upazila Health Complex. Following an inspection, the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zillur Rahman of Ulipur Police Station stated, “I’ve heard that two groups of local BNP leaders are associated with the young couple. However, the cops are attempting to rescue the young woman. In the meanwhile, we have confirmed the death of one individual as a result of the attack in front of the police station, although the exact cause of death will be revealed through an investigation. As of now, no complaints have been lodged about this incident.
