The women's team stayed alive

The women’s team stayed alive in the T20 series by defeating hosts Sri Lanka by 4 wickets. After losing the first two games of the four-match series, the Bangladesh Under-19 women’s cricket team took the field on Wednesday fearful of losing the series. However, they managed to avert defeat in the third encounter. They stayed alive in the four-match T20 series after defeating hosts Sri Lanka by four wickets.

The women’s team stayed alive: Sri Lanka batted first and scored 109 runs in 20 overs, losing six wickets. In reply, Bangladesh suffered an early setback, losing two wickets without scoring a single run.

Fahmida Chhoa and Sadia Islam added 43 runs to the third wicket partnership, which helped to stave off the early collapse. After Sadia was removed for 24 runs off 28 balls, skipper Sumaiya Akter took over. Chhoa and Sumaiya formed another 33-run partnership. However, the partnership was ended when Chhoa was run out after scoring 38 runs off 42 balls.

Even though Sumaiya (14) and Sadia (1) were dismissed later, Bangladesh easily secured the victory. Afiya’s stunning batting, which included 26 runs off 18 balls, enabled the Bangladeshi women win with two balls remaining, despite being 6 wickets behind.

With this victory, Bangladesh reduced the series deficit to 2-1. If they win the next match, they can split the series trophy. Shashini Gimani and Rashmika Sewandi claimed two wickets each for Sri Lanka.

“On this day, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat, but struggled during the powerplay. The top-order batsmen struggled against Bangladesh’s bowling, scoring runs but failing to rotate the strike efficiently. Sri Lanka would not have scored 109 runs without the services of the final two hitters, Hiruni Hansika (24 off 19 balls) and Shashini (14 off 7 balls).

Anisha Akter was the most successful Bangladeshi bowler, with two wickets. Nishita Akter, Chhoa, and Madiar Islam all took one wicket.
