Two Dubai expatriates were beaten

Two Dubai expatriates were beaten in Comilla, and persons acting as RAB officers looted 2.1 million taka. Individuals acting as RAB police threatened two Dubai expatriates from Comilla with legal action, dragged them off a bus, and stole 2.1 million taka, passports, and mobile phones.

Two Dubai expatriates were beaten: The incident occurred on January 14 on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Narayanganj’s Keodhala sector, which is within the jurisdiction of Bandar Police. However, as of Monday (January 20), no one involved in the incident had been detained. RAB and police have announced that operations are underway to capture those guilty.

According to the case statement, Abu Hanif, from Araga Anandapur village in Burichong, Comilla, and his companion Rajib Bhuiyan, from Brahmanbaria, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dubai early on January 14th. Later, about 1:30 PM, they boarded an Asia Line Transport bus bound for Comilla.

Abu Hanif, the complainant in the case, described the occurrence, saying, “When our bus arrived at the Keodhala area under Bandar Police Station, a white HiAce microbus intercepted it. At that point, three or four people dressed in RAB uniforms and equipped with walkie-talkies, handcuffs, and firearms boarded the bus. They violently removed us (Abu Hanif and Rajib) from the bus, claiming there were cases against us.”

Later, they forcibly removed us from the bus, along with two luggage. At that point, we began shouting, and the passengers attempted to intercede. The bus crew even captured the incident on video. However, the assailants ignored everyone and dragged us from the bus, forcing us into their microbus.

They bound our hands, feet, and eyes before assaulting us. They took away some dollars along with 2.135 million taka, three passports, two mobile phones, and other valuable belongings from us.

Later, after being driven around to several areas, they were abandoned by the roadside in a remote district of Demra, Dhaka, approximately 5 p.m. The incident was then reported to the RAB and local police. The victim alleged that on January 16, he filed a charge against unidentified perpetrators at Bandar Police Station.

Major Syed Sadiqul Haque, acting commander of RAB-11 Narayanganj, stated that “the assailants who stopped the bus, abducted the two expatriates, and looted cash and valuables while wearing RAB uniforms are not affiliated with RAB.”

RAB activities are ongoing to identify and apprehend the assailants using video footage acquired during the event.

Tarikul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, remarked that “there are organized groups operating on the highway.” Although there are CCTV cameras at the location, they were rendered inoperable owing to damage from an event on August 5, therefore no film of that day was captured. We are using camera footage and other technology techniques to apprehend the perpetrators.”
