BNP leaders “snatched” the accused from police custody. A charge has been filed against 67 people in connection with an event in Bhabaniganj, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, in which Mohammad Belal, an accused in a physical assault case, was “snatched” from the police after being arrested. The event was confirmed by Abdul Monnaf, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station, on Thursday afternoon (December 26).

According to reports, Mohammad Belal was taken on Wednesday night (December 25) in Sharifpur village, Bhabaniganj Union, Sadar Upazila. The incident is said to have involved members of the BNP and its connected groups, including Saifuddin Khaled, a Sadar Upazila BNP member, and Abul Kashem, a BNP member in Ward No. 7 of Bhabaniganj Union.

 

Belal, the accused, is Monir Hossain’s son from Ward No. 2 of Charbhuta village in Bhabaniganj, and a local BNP activist. He is the main accused in a complaint filed at Sadar Model Police Station for a land dispute that resulted in a physical assault. Nur Islam, the late Sultan Ahmed’s son from Ward No. 1 in Bhabaniganj Union, filed the petition on November 26.

 

Belal was seated in a shop when the incident occurred, according to local locals. Plainclothes officers from the Sadar Police Station went there and apprehended him. During this time, BNP leaders Saifuddin Khaled and Abul Kashem, among others, questioned the identities of the plainclothes officers. Meanwhile, people started to gather. At one point, BNP leaders assisted Belal in escaping by seizing him from the police.

 

Later, everyone went to Abul Kashem’s house for shelter. Despite the fact that the police initiated an operation to apprehend Belal and the other suspects in the case during the night, they all escaped.

 

According to police, they conducted an operation on Wednesday night near the Sharifpur Government Primary School in an attempt to apprehend Belal, the accused in the assault case. However, when Belal was being arrested and taken to the police station, witnesses helped him escape by seizing him from the cops.

Saifuddin Khaled, a member of the Sadar (East) Upazila BNP, stated, “We were sitting in the shop having tea, including Belal.” At that point, plainclothes police officers arrived and detained him. People began to gather, and Belal managed to flee using a strategy. Nobody seized him. The accusation of grabbing is false.

 

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station stated, “A few people snatched an accused from the police.” SI Sadekul Islam has filed a complaint involving 17 individuals and 40-50 unknown people. The police are working to apprehend the suspects.”
