BUET student’s death in Purbachal, two accused tests positive for drugs. Two of the suspects in the death of BUET student Muhtasim Masud (22) after being hit by a private car in Purbachal, Rupganj, Narayanganj, were inebriated. On Friday (December 20), the three arrested people underwent a drug test (dope test) at Narayanganj’s 100-bed General (Victoria) Hospital.
BUET student’s death in Purbachal: Shafia Sharmin, Narayanganj’s Senior Judicial Magistrate, ordered their remand in jail on Friday evening. Dr. AFM Mashiur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Narayanganj District, revealed that two of them tested positive for drugs. They had consumed alcohol.
Inspector Kaiyum Khan of the Narayanganj Court Police confirmed that the arrested men will appear in court on Sunday.
Advocate Rezaul Karim, the plaintiff’s lawyer, alleged that the accused, while driving under the influence of alcohol, collided with the motorbike riders, killing BUET student Muhtasim Masud on the spot. Two further pupils were hurt. A case has been filed in relation to the incident. The hearing will take place on Sunday.
The defense lawyer, Advocate Anwar Pradhan, General Secretary of the District Lawyers’ Association, stated that the collision was caused by a brake failure. In this case, the police have requested that the accused be remanded for five days.
Mubin Al Mamun (20), the private car’s driver, is one among the three people arrested. He is the son of Brigadier General (Retd.) Abdullah Al Mamun and lives in the capital’s Mirpur DOHS district.
The other two people arrested are Mirajul Karim (22), Rizwanul Karim’s son from Mirpur Peererbagh, and Asif Chowdhury (19), Bahaudddin Chowdhury’s son from Sector 13, Uttara. All three arrestees are students.
Around 3 a.m. on Thursday night, a BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) student was killed after being hit by a private car in the 300-foot area of Purbachal Upashahar in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
Mehedi Hasan Khan (22) and Amit Saha (22), both CSE students at BUET, were gravely hurt. Mehedi is being treated in Square Hospital in the city, and Amit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Muhtasim Masud (22), a second-year Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) student at BUET, passed away. He was the son of Masud Mia, who lived on Green Road in the Kalabagan police department of the city. Following the event, Muhtasim’s father filed a case under the Road Transport Act with the Rupganj Police Station.
Mehdi Islam, Narayanganj’s Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (G Circle), revealed that three people were arrested in connection with the event. They were taken to court on Friday afternoon following their drug tests. Muhtasim’s body has been transferred for an autopsy at Shahid Sohrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital. The cops have seized both the motorcycle and the private automobile.
According to the case specifics, Muhtasim and two companions took their motorcycles to the 300 Feet Nila Market area for dinner on Thursday night around 8 p.m. They had finished their supper and were on their way home. Around 3 a.m., at the Nila Market crossroads, the motorbike was halted at a police roadblock for questioning. At the checkpoint, a private automobile traveling at high speeds collided with the three people on the motorcycle. As a result, Muhtasim Masud died on the scene while his two classmates were injured.
Later, police personnel at the checkpoint grabbed the driver and two other people and sent them to the Rupganj Police Station. The officers discovered an empty bottle of alcohol and a can of beer in the private car.
