Eight (8) people were injured

Eight (8)  people were injured in a clash between two BNP groups over control of the manufacturing waste business. Eight individuals were injured in a battle between two BNP factions over control of a pharmaceutical factory’s trash business in Gazipur’s Tongi BSCIC district. The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Monday (December 30) at Tongi BSCIC.

Eight (8) people were injured: Omar Faruk Sohel (35), the former Organizing Secretary of the Tongi Thana BNP, has been taken to Dhaka for intensive treatment after being critically injured. Sohel is the son of Shahjahan Mia, who lives in the Gopalpur region of Tongi.

Former Joint Secretary of Tongi Thana Chhatra Dal Roni (35), Chhatra Dal leader Sohan (25), former Chhatra Dal leader Sabbir (26), Jamal (30), Badsha (30), Nayan (35), and Hridoy (32) were also hurt in the altercation.

According to local sources, Gazipur Salahuddin, General Secretary of the Tongi East Thana BNP, visited the Radiant Pharmaceutical Factory in BSCIC with his squad to collect waste products. Salahuddin, the former General Secretary of Tongi Thana Jubo Dal, also intervened on behalf of his group. The two sides clashed, and the area became a battleground.

The clash resulted in at least eight injuries on both sides. Later, Gazi Salauddin’s side collected the trash stuff. Although allegations of gunfire and cocktail explosions circulated, the authorities denied them.

Gazi Salauddin, General Secretary of the Tongi East Thana BNP, said Kaler Kantho, “The factory authorities have made a written agreement with me.”

“My people went to collect materials legally when some individuals obstructed them,” Salauddin claimed. “During this time, three of my men were injured in their attack.”

Salauddin M.Com, former General Secretary of Tongi Thana (Undivided) Jubo Dal, revealed, “We received information that some members of our party, as well as Awami League members, were taking scraps from a factory in BSCIC.” When we arrived there, we were attacked. Five of our employees were harmed in the incident.

Concerning the situation, Faridul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, said Kaler Kantho, “We received reports of tension between two groups over waste materials from a factory in BSCIC.”

“No gunshots or cocktail blasts occurred. There have been no arrests in this case because no complaints have been lodged.”
