Fire in Rohingya camp, 2 killed. A fire at the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, destroyed 1,000 homes and killed two people, including a toddler. The incident took place on Tuesday (December 24) at noon at the Kutupalong Lambashia camp. The fire was brought under control after two hours.
Fire in Rohingya camp: One of the victims has been named as Abul Khair (60), son of the late Suleman from Block 1C of the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya. However, the identity of the deceased youngster has yet to be determined, according to Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arif Hossain.
Md. Mujibullah, the deceased Abul Khair’s nephew, stated, “We have no idea how the fire started. My uncle was unable to escape as the flames engulfed the camp’s houses. Everything in the house had been torched. Those whose homes had been destroyed were unable to save anything. All of their stuff have been reduced to ashes.
Shariful Islam, station master of the Ukhiya Fire Service, stated, “When a fire broke out at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp, four units worked to put it out. The fire was brought under control after two hours. The tragedy claimed the lives of two Rohingyas, one of which was a youngster.
Arif Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station, reported that the fire began in the Rohingya shelters at the Kutupalong Lambashia camp on Tuesday afternoon and spread quickly. Approximately 1,000 homes were reduced to ashes. Two people, including a child, perished because they were unable to leave their homes.”
The OC went on to say that one of the deceased’s identities had been confirmed, but the identity of the other, a youngster, had not to be determined. After the fire was detected, the fire brigade and Rohingyas collaborated to extinguish it. The fire was brought under control after around two hours.
