Following the murder, the criminals were apprehended by villagers as they attempted to dispose of the body to conceal the crime. They were later turned up to the police.
In Narsingdi, Factory owner strangled: Police retrieved the body and arrested the accused on Saturday afternoon (December 21). Nur Mohammad (48), the son of Alkas Mia from Kolatpur village in Madhabdi, Kathalia Union, Sadar Upazila, passed away. He owned the Nur Mohammad Power Loom and Textile Factory.
The arrested people are Robin (21), son of Robbani from Kathalia village in Madhabdi, Rubel (22), son of Ebadulal from the same village, Alam (42), son of Abdul Aziz from Kolatpur village, and Rakib Hossain (21), son of Abdul Rashid.
According to police and local sources, Nur Mohammad, the son of Alkas Mia from Kolatpur village in Madhabdi, Kathalia Union of Sadar Upazila, had his own Nur Mohammad Power Loom and Textile Factory. Recently, Robin, Rakib, Alamin, Rubel, and others in the region sought 5 million taka in extortion money from Nur Mohammad. But he refused to comply. They eventually dropped their demand to 500,000 taka, but the plant owner still refused. This resulted in a conflict between the parties. As a result, on Friday night, they contacted Nur Mohammad and coaxed him out of his home.
They later took him to a neighboring abandoned factory, where an argument erupted. Rubel, Rakib, Robin, Alamin, and an unnamed person strangled Nur Mohammad to death. Following the murder, they attempted to dispose of the body by packing it into a sack and driving to the Araihazar border in Narayanganj early in the morning to dump it.
However, locals observed them as they attempted to dispose of the body. The villagers apprehended and beat up the suspects. They then notified the Madhabdi Police Station. Around 12 p.m., police arrived to the area, found the victim’s body, and transported it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Four people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the crime.
Md. Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhabdi Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that four persons have been apprehended on allegations of murdering power loom owner Nur Mohammad. They’re being interrogated. One of them has admitted to extorting 500,000 taka, while the others have given different statements. Every facet of the case is being thoroughly investigated.
