Jubo League leader attends father’s funeral with handcuffs. Abul Kalam Azad (45), a Jubo League leader from Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi, was granted three hours’ parole to attend his father’s burial. On Saturday evening (December 14), he was released from Rajshahi Central Jail and attended the burial at 8 p.m. Throughout this time, he was handcuffed.
Jubo League leader attends: According to reports, Abul Kalam Azad lives in Shahapur hamlet, which is part of the Arani Municipality in the Bagha Upazila district. He serves as president of the municipality’s Ward No. 5 Jubo League. On Wednesday morning, Bagha police arrested him in connection with a case. His father, Azahar Ali (70), died only two days after his imprisonment.
After being given release, Abul Kalam Azad was taken to the Arani Eidgah in Bagha and placed under severe police guard. After his father’s funeral and burial, he was returned to prison.
Mominul Islam, a lawyer from Rajshahi Judge Court, filed a written application with the Deputy Commissioner and District Executive Magistrate on behalf of Abul Kalam Azad. Based on this application, Senior Assistant Commissioner Riaqat Salman of the Judicial Branch, District Commissioner’s Office, issued a circular allowing him three hours of parole.
Bagha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman stated that after being granted parole from prison, he was given all essential facilities in compliance with the rules. He was escorted to his father’s funeral under tight security. Following the funeral, he was returned to prison.
Family members claim Abul Kalam Azad was detained in a fake, concocted, and unsubstantiated case filed by the illegal Yunus government.
