The Arakan Army has detained 20 Bangladeshi fishermen: Members of Myanmar’s military organization, the Arakan Army (AA), captured 20 fishermen and 15 boats while fishing in the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The Arakan Army has detained 20 Bangladeshi fishermen. This occurrence occurred around 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, in the Baidyarpara area near the Naikhongdiya estuary of the Naf River and the Bay of Bengal. Abdus Salam, a Sabrang Union member from Ward 9, validated this information.

According to Abdus Salam, personnel of the Arakan Army appeared on a huge trawler and detained the fishermen at gunpoint. All of the fisherman are believed to be from Jaliapara and Camppara on Shah Porir Dwip in the Sabrang Union of Teknaf Upazila. However, he was unable to furnish the names and addresses of everyone.

Abdul Gani, head of the Shah Porir Dwip Jaliapara Small Fishermen’s Association, stated that on October 8, the Arakan Army captured five Bangladeshi fishermen and their boats from the Naf River. Later, thanks to the efforts of the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh), the Arakan Army returned them and the boat.

Md. Adnan Chowdhury, the Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), stated that local UP members and citizens told him of the occurrence. The proper authorities have been contacted about the situation.

When asked about the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Commander of Teknaf-2 BGB, stated that he learned about it from locals and fishermen’s families. He stated that they are in communication with Myanmar officials about the situation.

Explosions could be heard across the border throughout the day.

The ongoing civil conflict in Myanmar has escalated again, with loud explosions heard on this side of the border. The sounds of explosions have continued throughout Monday night till 3:30 p.m. today, Tuesday.

Mohammad Yasin, a resident of Jaliapara in Teknaf Municipality, stated that “since Monday night, the sounds of gunfire and mortar shell explosions have increased.” It’s quieter during the day, but the sounds are stronger at night. As a result, our children are becoming increasingly afraid at night. We’re not sure when we’ll be free of this cacophony.”
