A donation box is missing after an attack at a shrine close to Suhrawardy Udyan: An incident has reportedly occurred at the shrine of Hazrat Haji Khwaja Shahbaz (R.A.) near Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan, resulting in destruction.

A donation box is missing after an attack at a shrine close to Suhrawardy Udyan. The shrine’s caretaker, Zahirul Islam, claimed that the vandalism occurred about 11 a.m. on Tuesday (November 5). He said that the intruders seized the shrine’s donation box during the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, an Islamic grand meeting took place at Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday. Thousands of religious experts and devotees attended the meeting, which was designed to promote Dawah and Tabligh, preserve Qawmi madrasas, and maintain the faith. Although the meeting was supposed to start at 9 a.m., devotees began flocking at Suhrawardy Udyan immediately after the Fajr prayer. The discussions began in the early morning hours.

Around 11 a.m., a group known as “Tawhidi Janata” went to the shrine of Hazrat Haji Khwaja Shahbaz (R.A.) and vandalized it. When the shrine’s guardians attempted to interfere, they were assaulted as well.

On-site assessments show that the shrine’s inner curtains have been ripped down, and the iron railings have cracked. Following the event, the shrine’s donation box has gone missing as well.

Regarding the event, Zahirul Islam, the shrine’s caretaker, remarked, “They arrived around 11 a.m. and tore down the banners and posters outside our gate.” They attacked the worshipers within the shrine, entered wearing shoes, and smashed the iron railings. They took three donation boxes away. During this time, they also assaulted a woman nearby. At one point, we summoned the troops. Because of their arrival, they were unable to fully damage our temple. They threatened to vandalize our shrine following the gathering.

Regarding this situation, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaled Mansur of Shahbagh Police Station claimed, “I have not received any reports of such vandalism. Nobody has filed a complaint.
