This time around in the BPL, local young players are increasing expectations with their promising performances . If not now, when? Â Habibur Rahman Sohan, who is 25 years old and has played in the BPL before, has already warmed up by hammering bowlers in the National T20 Cricket League, this year’s warm-up tournament.
This time around in the BPL:Â If Habibur doesn’t make an impact in this year’s BPL, when will he? Not only does Habibur shine in this year’s BPL, but so do Zishan and Ariful. They, like Habibur, had a fantastic season in the National Cricket League.
In one section of the NCL, 20-year-old Zishan stood out above the rest. The most important talent in Twenty20 cricket is smashing sixes. Zishan hit 22 sixes in just seven contests. In the first encounter of the National T20 League, he smashed seven sixes in eight balls and scored a century off only 52 deliveries.
This Bangladesh U-19 batsman scored two additional fifties for Sylhet, totaling 281 runs. However, what garnered the most attention was his extraordinary strike rate of 158.75. No other hitter in the event scored more than 17 sixes. Let’s watch how many sixes Zishan can score for the unstoppable Rajshahi team in the BPL!
Habibur’s bat produced the second-highest total of sixes (17). Habibur had the highest strike rate of everyone who scored 150 runs in the competition, at 160.86. This cricketer, known as Sohan, represented Khulna last season, scoring 105 runs in 11 matches at an average of less than 20 and a strike rate of 111.70.
This time, Habibur has the opportunity to forget previous season’s disappointment. He will play for Dhaka in this year’s BPL.
Bangladesh’s U-19 Asia Cup-winning skipper, Azizul Hakim, struck one fewer sixes than Habibur. Azizul, also known as Tamim, scored 237 runs at a strike rate of 136.99 in 9 Khulna matches. Rangpur Riders have selected Azizul for this year’s BPL.
Ariful’s name is also worth mentioning. In the NCL, he batted at a strike rate of 142, scoring 213 runs and 14 sixes. He, too, has an excellent opportunity to impress this season while playing for Fortune Barishal.
This year’s BPL provides an ideal platform for Akbar Ali to perform. He has previously appeared in three BPL seasons, scoring 84 runs in 15 matches with an average of 12. His strike rate, however, was 129.23, which was considerably better.
Akbar comes into this year’s BPL in great form, having scored 208 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150 in the NCL. Leading Rajshahi to the tournament title has increased his confidence as a captain. He will also play for Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League.
For these NCL standouts, the BPL represents an even larger challenge. How they perform in this test remains to be seen.
