This time in the BPL, I haven’t seen anything other than concerts. The setting is set for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which is about to commence. Teams are finalizing their preparations for the event, including naming captains and other important chores. Fortune Barishal, the defending champions, will meet Rajshahi in the first match.
This time in the BPL: However, even before the 11th edition begins, there have been controversies and criticisms about the BPL concerts. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has come under fire for lowering player salaries despite spending millions on concerts at three venues. Notably, famed Pakistani performer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan reportedly received 3.4 crore BDT for performing at the music festival in Dhaka alone, with additional fees charged for other artists performing at the remaining two locations.
However, the BPL winning team will only receive 2 crore BDT in prize money. This mismatch has provoked an outpouring of outrage on social media. Even a day before the tournament starts, the argument over the concerts has not faded. Tamim Iqbal, Fortune Barishal’s captain, was also questioned about this matter.
Tamim responded by emphasizing that the BCB should invest in cricket rather than concerts. At a news conference in Mirpur, Tamim emphasized the necessity for significant investment in the game, saying, “This time in the BPL, other from concerts, I haven’t seen much else. If we want to organize a distinctive BPL, we must invest in cricket. That’s the most crucial thing.”
“We should invest in the tournament. If we invest in cricket and the competition, we can call this a new type of BPL.”
