This time the Ministry of External Affairs

This time the Ministry of External Affairs of India summoned Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner. India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner in response to border tensions between the two countries. Earlier, on Sunday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned India’s High Commissioner, Pranay Verma, on the same matter.

This time the Ministry of External Affairs: This information was reported on Monday, January 13, by the Indian media agency ANI. According to the report, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently summoned the Indian High Commissioner to express great concern and condemn the fencing efforts along the India-Bangladesh border.

Following consultations with the Foreign Secretary on Sunday, Pranay Verma assured reporters that Dhaka and New Delhi would collaborate to combat border crimes. He stated that India initiated barbed-wire fencing along its border to prevent illicit infiltration. India hopes Bangladesh will cooperate in the construction of the fence.

He further indicated that discussions with the Foreign Secretary focused on smuggling and unlawful border crossings.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, on the other hand, voiced his government’s profound worry to High Commissioner Pranay Verma about India’s Border Security Force (BSF) recent activity along the Bangladesh-India border. He noted that such efforts, particularly the BSF’s unapproved attempts to install barbed-wire barriers and related operational measures, have created friction and disturbances along the border.

The Foreign Secretary warned that erecting barbed-wire barriers without formal license damages the spirit of collaboration and goodwill between the two neighboring countries. He expressed optimism that the subject would be discussed in depth during the impending Director General-level talks between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF.

The Foreign Secretary expressed grave worry about the recent killing of a Bangladeshi citizen by the BSF in Sunamganj. He strongly criticized the incident and encouraged Indian authorities to take steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring again. In addition, he demanded that all border killings be investigated and those involved held accountable.
