Three (3) officials and employees of Titas were attacked unexpectedly by an organized group while evicting illegal gas connections. During an effort to remove illicit gas connections, Titas Gas officer Mohammad Shahabuddin, Deputy General Manager of the Narayanganj Regional Marketing Division in Sonargaon, was seriously injured in an unexpected attack by an organized group. In addition, the attack injured one office employee, two disconnection team members, and many police officers.
Three (3) officials and employees: Titas Gas Company issued this information in a press statement on Wednesday, January 8. Titas stated that the Narayanganj district administration was notified, and on Wednesday, a mobile court was held in the areas of Maishtake and Mirertek, Sonargaon, Narayanganj, led by Fazle Wahid, Senior Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to evict illegal gas connections.
During the operation, roughly 1 kilometer of illicit gas connections were cut in the Maishtake neighborhood. Approximately 200 domestic stoves from 200 homes were disconnected, and approximately 100 feet of MS and 150 feet of PVC pipes were removed.
After the operation in the Maishtake area, while attempting to disconnect an illegal 2-inch diameter gas line near the Mirertek market, an organized group unexpectedly attacked Titas officials and employees.” Mohammad Shahabuddin, Deputy General Manager of the Narayanganj Regional Marketing Division in Sonargaon, was seriously injured in the incident. In addition, one office employee, two disconnection team members, and many police officers were injured.
From September to January 7, a total of 16,827 unlawful gas connections were terminated, including 145 industrial, 86 commercial, and 16,596 residential connections, as well as 40,916 burners. The illegal connection disconnections resulted in a daily savings of 11,113,253 cubic feet of gas, which is worth roughly 5.165 million taka. In addition, 86 kilometers of pipelines were dismantled during these activities.
