Tulip confirmed her resignation

Tulip confirmed her resignation in a post on X. Tulip Siddiq, the UK’s Economic Secretary, has resigned in the face of criticism. Tulip, the niece of Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, verified this on X.

Tulip confirmed her resignation: Tulip Siddiq was the Economic Secretary of the UK Treasury, in charge of combating corruption in the country’s financial sector.

In August, Sheikh Hasina was deposed in a popular rebellion. Following then, charges of 80,000 crore taka fraud from nine infrastructure projects during Sheikh Hasina’s administration appeared. These charges implicated Sheikh Hasina and other family members, including Tulip Siddiq. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is examining these allegations.

After the ACC’s activities garnered attention, various UK media sites covered the story. Tulip Siddiq was present when Sheikh Hasina met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in 2013. At the time, various British media sites widely circulated this photograph of her.

In this context, Tulip sent a letter (referral) to Laurie Magnus, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Ministerial Standards, demanding an investigation into the claims against her. Magnus assists the UK Prime Minister on ministerial conduct and ethical standards. Tulip Siddiq resigned as the probe was ongoing.

Tulip Siddiq was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom for the fourth time in a row after being nominated by the Labour Party last year. Following that, in July, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government named her as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister.

Tulip Siddiq was re-elected as a Member of Parliament for the Hampstead and Highgate seat in southwest London for the fourth time in the general election on July 4, 2017. She was first elected to the UK parliament in 2015.
