An easy-bike driver was beaten to death and dumped in a canal in Cox’s Bazar. An easy-bike driver was beaten to death over an alleged vehicle theft and his body was dumped in a drain in Khurushkul, Cox’s Bazar. Police have recovered the body and arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.

 

An easy-bike driver: The body was recovered around 10 AM on Wednesday from a drain near Allahwala Hatchery in Khurushkul Union, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, according to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ilyas Khan.

 

The victim, Abul Kalam (35), was the son of the late Amanul Haque from Fakirpara, Ward No. 4 of Khurushkul Union. The arrested suspect, Jafar Ullah (38), resides near Tekpara Government Primary School in Cox’s Bazar city. His ancestral home is in Paschim Char Jabbar, Subarnachar Upazila, Noakhali district. He was also an easy-bike driver.

 

According to the victim’s cousin, Mohammad Karim, Abul Kalam used to drive an easy-bike for hire in Cox’s Bazar city and Khurushkul. He would leave home every morning and return by 10 PM. However, after leaving home on Tuesday morning, he did not return at night. Worried family members searched for him but could not find any trace. On Wednesday morning, locals discovered his body in a drain near Allahwala Hatchery in Khurushkul and informed the family, who then alerted the police.

 

Karim further mentioned that a few days ago, an easy-bike was stolen from a garage owned by Surat Alam in Tekpara, Cox’s Bazar. The owner of the stolen vehicle was Jafar Ullah. Abul Kalam was accused of the theft.

 

Two days before the incident, four to five people, including the garage and vehicle owner, visited Abul Kalam’s house and threatened him before leaving. The family suspects that he was taken to the garage, beaten to death, and then his body was dumped in the drain.

 

OC Ilyas Khan stated that police recovered the body based on information from locals. The victim had multiple injury marks on his body, and several fingernails on his hands and feet were forcibly removed. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report.

 

He added that police conducted a raid in the morning and arrested easy-bike owner Jafar Ullah. He is currently being interrogated. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend others involved. Police suspect that the murder was linked to the easy-bike theft allegation. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover the true motive. The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
