Clash of Two Factions at Patuakhali District BNP Workers’ Rally. On Saturday (January 18), a fight broke out on the court grounds in front of central leaders. Supporters of the Altaf Hossain Chowdhury faction and the Snehangshu Sarkar Kutti faction clashed.
Clash of Two Factions at Patuakhali: According to reports, several people were injured during the event. Five injured people have been admitted to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital. The injured include Chhatra Dal head Md. Firoz Alam Khan Yusuf, as well as Jubo Dal members Riaz, Zahir, Russell, and Hanif Howlader.
During the incident, district and central leaders failed to maintain control. According to party sources, Abdul Awal Mintoo, the central BNP’s Vice Chairman, visited Patuakhali to meet with district leaders about preparations for the Patuakhali District BNP conference.
On this day, a workers’ rally was held on the ancient court grounds. Beginning in the afternoon, leaders and activists from various areas began to arrive at the demonstration.
They further alleged that officials and activists from the group supporting former Home Minister and Patuakhali District BNP President Altaf Hossain Chowdhury arrived on the field in a procession led by Maksud Baizid Panna and Toufiq Ali Khan Kabir. At the moment, leaders and activists from the faction backing District BNP Member Secretary Snehangshu Sarkar Kutti were already on the field, chanting slogans.
In such a setting, a disagreement erupted between the two groups over yelling slogans and taking the platform, resulting in a melee. Several others had bloody injuries during the incident.
During the altercation between party leaders and activists, Mintoo, Central BNP Joint Organizing Secretary Akon Kuddus Rahman, and Mahbubul Haque Nannu were all on stage.
Maksud Baizid Panna, a Patuakhali District BNP member and former General Secretary, stated, “When I attempted to enter the stage, the Chhatra Dal President and some Jubo Dal members obstructed me.” Although I resigned, my supporters were attacked, resulting in four injuries. Snehangshu Sarkar Kutti did not respond to calls for a statement.
