Father hacked to death in front of his son in Sylhet. In Sylhet’s Kanaighat, a man was slashed to death in front of his son over a land dispute. The incident occurred early Friday (November 8) in the village of Dholibil Dakshin Nayagaon, Dakshin Banigram Union, upazila.

Father hacked to death. The deceased was identified as Faizul Hossain (68), a son of the late Abdul Latif from the same village. The accused, Sultan Ahmed (50), is the victim’s cousin.

 

According to local accounts, Faizul Hossain had a long-running conflict with Sultan Ahmed over residential land. Due to this conflict, Sultan allegedly attempted to assassinate Faizul for multiple days. Around 6:30 a.m. today, while Faizul was at home with his expatriate son Ali Raza, Sultan Ahmed appeared with a sharp machete and hurled abuses. When Sultan started to strike, Ali Raza moved aside to protect himself, and Sultan struck Faizul repeatedly on the head and neck.

When villagers heard the story, they hurried to the area and confined Sultan Ahmed to his home before notifying the police. Later, police arrived on the scene and captured Sultan Ahmed.

According to Abdul Awal, Officer-in-Charge of the Kanaighat Police Station, Sultan Ahmed has confessed to the murder. Preparations are currently ongoing to file a case at the police station.

The OC quoted neighbors as saying Sultan Ahmed was involved in a variety of illicit activities in the neighborhood. He used to roam the region wildly with a machete. His brother and other cousins fled their homes and are currently living in Sylhet.
