Goltaj Begum mortgaged her daughter’s jewelry to purchase rice and lentils from the TCB. Goltaj Begum, 75, resides on Khaja Road in Chattogram city. She stood in line for TCB items at Jamalkhan today, around 11:30 a.m. She received the things about 2 p.m.
Goltaj stated that her spouse is sick and her son is unemployed. They are barely getting by. After a long wait in line, she finally received the products and was fatigued. She described her family’s position, stating that her husband is bedridden and has been unable to work for some time, leaving them without an income. She made some money by mortgaging her daughter’s gold jewelry. She uses the money for home bills and spends the rest on TCB items.
This morning, Thursday, Goltaj Begum spoke with us at Jamalkhan in Chattogram. Around 400 people were waiting in line in front of the TCB truck at this location to buy merchandise. Approximately 350 persons received their stuff. People of all ages and occupations were waiting in line. One of them was Mohammad Musa, a rickshaw driver. He has been experiencing shortness of breath for a long time.

When prompted to talk, Mohammad Musa explained that he must use an inhaler three to four times per day and take medication for high blood pressure and diabetes. This rickshaw puller, in his fifties and of lean build, has reduced his pharmaceutical bills to help with his home expenses. He stated, “I am having a great deal of difficulty. My body cannot keep up. My income is poor. I’m not sure how I’ll finance the medications.”

Mohammad Musa stood in line with the others and paid 470 taka for 5 kg of rice, 2 liters of oil, and 2 kg of lentils. Then, in Chattogram’s regional dialect, he stated that he gets 400 taka on certain days and 500 taka on others by driving a rickshaw. Some days, he barely makes 200 taka. About ten years ago, he fell from a tree and fractured his leg. Since then, he has been unable to walk straight. As a result, he lacks the stamina to operate a rickshaw for extended periods. However, he need 180 taka of medicine each day.

Selina, who is expecting, came to purchase TCB products after borrowing 500 taka. She stated that she had learned from her neighbors that TCB items were being distributed today. She had hoped for onions as well, but there weren’t any. However, after approximately an hour of waiting, she was able to obtain the remaining supplies.
Mohammad Hasan, a night guard by profession, waited in line for an hour and a half at Jamalkhan but did not receive any products. He had to return empty handed. Because of his employment, he had been awake all night. He arrived at 1 p.m. and stood in line, but still did not receive anything. He will have to return again.
