Housewife gang-raped on Padma char, three arrested youths confess. A housewife was allegedly gang-raped on an engine-powered trawler in the Old Mawa Ferry Ghat area of Louhajang Upazila, Munshiganj. According to the victim, while traveling to her in-law’s house, three young men posing as passengers forcibly raped her after she boarded the trawler.
Housewife gang-raped: A case was filed at the Padma Bridge North Police Station regarding this shocking incident. Later, on Wednesday night, police conducted a raid and arrested the accused—Yamin Munshi (19), Jamal Molla (23), and Jabbar Sheikh (18).
The Munshiganj District Police Department released a press statement on Thursday at around 9:30 PM, providing details of the case.
According to court sources, the three arrested youths gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the relevant Munshiganj court on Thursday afternoon. Following their confession, the judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
Police reported that on February 17, the victim and her husband filed a written complaint at the Padma Bridge (North) Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police visited the scene, verified the incident, and subsequently filed a case before launching a manhunt to arrest the suspects.
On February 18, police arrested Jamal Molla from the banks of the Padma River. Based on his statement, a raid was conducted near the Padma Bridge area on the night of February 19 at around 7:30 PM, leading to the arrest of the other two accused, Yamin and Jabbar.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar stated that during police interrogation and their court confession, the accused revealed that the victim had been waiting for a boat at the Old Mawa Ferry Ghat to travel to her husband’s house. The accused, Abu Bakar Siddique and Jamal Molla, offered her a ride on their trawler. During the journey, the other two accused, Yamin and Jabbar, boarded the trawler. Around 7:30 PM, taking advantage of the isolation on the river, the four accused intimidated the victim and took her to the deserted Domrakhali Char of the Padma River, where they raped her.
Later, around 9:00 PM, the suspects dropped the victim near the Old Mawa Coast Guard Station, threatening her to remain silent before fleeing the scene.
The Superintendent of Police further stated that the three arrested individuals confessed in court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The trawler used in the crime and a geo bag were seized as evidence. The victim has undergone a medical examination, and her clothing has been preserved as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are actively searching for the remaining fugitive accused.
