About two and a half hours after a jail van carrying him was halted, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the principal of Pundarik Dham and spokesperson for the Bangladesh United Sanatan Awakening Alliance, was brought to prison. He was brought to prison by the police at approximately 2:45 PM today, Tuesday.
Police used baton charges … Earlier, at around 12:30 PM, his supporters blocked the prison van that was transporting him from the court grounds in protest after his bail request was denied in a sedition case. Later, the police used sound bombs and baton charging to scatter the demonstrators.
At 10:30 AM, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was brought before the Chattogram court. Following a hearing that ended at 12:20 PM, the judge denied his request for bail and mandated that he be placed in jail.
He was taken into custody yesterday, Monday afternoon, in Dhaka on charges of desecration of the national flag at Chattogram city’s Independence Monument, which is situated at the intersection of New Market.
According to an on-site observer, Chinmoy Krishna Das was brought to jail in a prison van after being closely watched by police from the court building’s second level. His followers, however, had gathered around the jail vehicle prior to this. On the ground, some even lay down. The police repeatedly asked the demonstrators to disperse, but they refused. Police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) started baton charging at approximately 2:50 PM. The demonstrators dispersed when a number of sound grenades were also detonated. The tires were deflated during this period when the cops tried to transfer the prison van. Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was eventually driven by police to Chattogram Jail.
Mofizur Rahman, the Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution), said Prothom Alo that Chinmoy Krishna’s bail request was denied by the court. The Chandgaon Mohra Ward BNP’s general secretary, Firoz Khan, filed a sedition case against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 other people at Kotwali Police Station on October 31. Later, the BNP stripped Firoz Khan of his responsibilities. In relation to the matter, Chinmoy Krishna and two other people have been taken into custody thus far.
Swaroop Kanti Nath, the attorney for Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, stated that an appeal for bail has been sent to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court after the magistrate’s court denied the bail request. The hearing is set for Wednesday of next.
