Recommend removing three of the four basic principles of state governance. The Constitution Reform Commission has proposed eliminating three of the four guiding principles of state governance. At the same time, they’ve established four new principles for state government that preserve democracy.
Recommend removing three of the four: The Constitution Reform Commission, chaired by Professor Ali Riaz, delivered their report with reform proposals to the Chief Advisor today, Wednesday.
The constitution currently includes four guiding principles of state governance: nationalism, socialism, democracy, and secularism. Only democracy is included in the proposed new set of five values. The five new principles proposed are: equality, human dignity, social justice, pluralism, and democracy. According to the commission’s recommendation, these five principles are presented as expressions of the great ideals of the 1971 Liberation War and the people’s aspirations for the 2024 mass revolt, and should be adopted as essential values of the constitution and the state.
During this time, Professor Ali Riaz, the leader of the Constitution Reform Commission, delivered a summary of their report. He stated that they had advocated a countrywide referendum on constitutional revisions. They have also suggested the formation of a bicameral parliament.
